I've had a sore throat for about a week now. The doc said it wasn't strept and prescribed me Allegra D which didn't do anything. Then he prescribed me amoxicillin and said it might be strept afterall but I haven't had a fever. I am now getting a bad cold and cough along with the sore throat so I am completely miserable and have missed a week of school. What should I take? The allegra or the antibiotic or something OTC????

Why did your doc say it wasn't strep? Just because you don't have a fever? Did he take a throat culture? Make sure to do that.

What about other symptoms? Having a bug last for 7 - 10 days is pretty common. Just let it run its course, be patient. But if you still have a problem after 2 weeks, pester your doctor until he rules out strep, mono, or severe allergies, etc.
