| can't get rid of cough
I guess it's welcome to the flu season..I live in central Florida,and understand the flu is high around here this year,hospitals can't keep up..I'm in my 50's and never had the flu,but have had bronchitis and pneumonia a long time ago..Haven't had a bad cold in almost 2 yrs,until 6 days ago.I started with a sore throat,next day stuffy nose,day after that started with a loud dry hacking cough,no fever.I have had post nasal drip for a long time,so I kept trying to get that up,it was thick and white..took Vicks Formuler 44 Multy-Symptom,didn't help the cough,then I started to hear in my chest a rattling or wheezing sound.All I did was cough at night where I had to sit up to sleep,and got only 3 to 4 hrs sleep.Put my vaporizer on,it seemed like nothing helped..Asked a K-Mart pharmacist what to take, suggested Mucelex DM,which has a cough suppressant in it.You can take one or two every 12 hours,I took 2,seemed to work for a while,didn't cough as much,but at night it was cough and cough all night,and the rattling noise in my chest.It seems to get better for a while,then it starts all over again.It seems worse at night.Still went to work,can't afford to be out,and can't afford a Dr bill,have part time insurance,thru work,which hardly pays for much..I just took 2 more Mucelex,and will be going to bed soon,as I'm typing I started to sneeze,and getting a runny nose...don't know what else to do,but if I'm not better in 3 days,I guess I will have to try to see a Dr...In the meantime does anyone have any other suggestions on how to get rid of this cough,without having to go see a Dr?
