Yellowish mucus when blowing my nose

I've had this cold or whatever for about a week and a half. It started with a terrible taste in my mouth, then a sore throat. I was waking up in the morning and when I blew my nose it was a brownish color. I am now still blowing my nose and it is yellow. How long does it take to get rid of this stuff. I am on a pennicillin (for about 5 days now). I am just feeling so stuff up and tired. Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Yellowish mucus when blowing my nose

I don't know how long it will last, but, I do know that Mucinex (over counter) will help clear the mucous. It does so by thinning the secretions so the body can get rid of it. Mucinex plus an antibiotic work well together.

Please note that I am not a medical professional, speakng from experience.

Re: Yellowish mucus when blowing my nose

I went back to my doctor and she gave me augmentin. As you stated, she told me to take mucinex 2 times per day also. I have to get some of the mucinex, the drainage has to go!!!

Thank,

Also when I went to the doctors my blood pressure was up 180/100. Has anyone experienced their blood pressure rising while have an infection. Of course now I have a new worry.

Re: Yellowish mucus when blowing my nose

Meh, don't worry about it. Blood pressure could rise if you're body's working harder to rid itself of the illness you've got. Or maybe you're stressed out as well, causing it to rise.

Also, the mucus produced from a cold can last a LOT longer than you actually feel sick from the cold.

Yellow isn't THAT bad. It's green that's the worry. And brown sounds like your nasal passages were dry and some blood was mixed in there, to make the brown colour. Ew. LOL.

You may not find anti-biotics like Augmentin helpful if it's truly just a cold, you realise. A cold is a virus and anti-biotics do nothing for viruses.
