how long can a throught viral infection last and are swollen and itchy eyes a part of it

Such an infection can last up to three weeks or more. In CA they can last
up to six weeks. I stongly reccommed Organic Echinacea Plus Tea. Try taking
a cup full at least three or fout times per day until you feel better. Also, Vit
C 500 MG three times per day should help.
