Mucus Discharge with cold - Colds & Flu Message Board

I've had a pretty severe cold for 4 days now. Last night I started coughing up slightly hard, pale greenish brown mucus after long coughing fits. I called my doctor this morning and he said that it was nothing to be concerned about, the small amount of blood was from my throat (this doesn't sounds right to me, even if it was barely a speck). I took mucinex days 1 and 2 but ran out and have no way to get to the store at the moment. Any ideas?

I'm not a doctor, but ... I had bronchitis last month. The doc gave me a script for prednisone, which was very helpful, but I was still coughing up a lot of nasty, greenish, brown colored crap. I called the doc back so she called in an antibiotic, and it went away very quickly after that.

In my experience, the darker the color, the more likely you have an infection.

If you take an antibiotic, make sure you also eat yogurt or supplement with a probiotic. Docs never tell us this, but it's important to retain the GOOD bacteria in our bodies as well.
