Cold sore and acyclovir?

I have felt the signature tingling sensation and noticed a tiny white dot on my lower lip for at least 2 weeks now. I have only had cold sores a few times in my life and always on the exact same spot. I got some Zovirax ointment and have been applying it. But the tiny dot is still itchy and has still neither emerged as a cold sore nor gone away.

I am thinking that since it has started, I may just be delaying the inevitable by using the Zoviraz (Acyclovir) ointment.

Should I stop applying the ointment and just let the cold sore emerge? If it's going to happen anyway, I'd just as soon get it over with. I am getting tired of this tingly itchy spot and worrying about contaminating other areas. I want to expedite making it go away.

Thanks for any advice!!

Re: Cold sore and acyclovir?

If it was going to emerge it would have emerged by now, and it it was going to go away it would have done so - I would stop the acyclovir and look for the real cause, because its unlikely to be a cold sore.
