Question Painful neck & cold/flu symptoms?

A few weeks ago I had really severe flu and a painful stiff neck - which I put down to sleeping with an extra pillow as I woke up with the pain.

I felt better for about 5 days and then 2 days ago over the course of an hour in the evening the back of my head on the left side right at the base started hurting really badly which affected my neck. I had to lie down and take painkillers which didn't get rid of the pain but did make it slightly better. Now, I have flu like symptoms and this painful neck constantly which keeps me awake at night and is all I can think about in the day.

What should I do? I've looked at meningitis symptoms and most websites ask if I can touch my chin to my chest which I can. Could I still have it though?

I may have a slight fever but nothing as bad as the severe flu a few weeks ago.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Re: Painful neck & cold/flu symptoms?

Hi, yes one idea is to call the doctor or emergency room and ask them what they think or even go there. In my opinion it is better to catch it early and nip it in the bud so to speak than to suffer serious nervous system problems later on.

Has there been holiday confectionary or pastry?

Thanks for your reply, I'll call them soon. I think they discourage going in to see the docs if you have fluey symptoms. I'm so worried it's something serious.

I've eaten holiday chocolate, cakes and mince pies, why do you ask?

Thanks again

Re: Painful neck & cold/flu symptoms?

HI In this case because the neck is involved in would call anyway and describe the symptoms just in case meningitis is starting.

The sweets feed bacteria and they put out toxin giving trouble. Nice treats can be made in the future using fruits such as a homemade coconut date log. If a person has symptoms however that is probably not the time to use any form of something very sweet. A fruit salad might be a more acceptable alternative. That way a person can be sure there are no unhealthy additives also.
