pneumonia and high white blood cell count My mom collapsed on Friday morning and was sent to the emergency room - she is 73 but works out everyday in excellent shape. The only sign she had was a mild cough and a mild pain in the lower chest under the heart. So she is in the hospital and they did all kinds of test and found she had pneumonia. She stayed overnight and was expected to leave today but her white blood cell count was high. It was 17 and should be under 10. Is this typical for pneumonia? They gave her levequin antibiotic. I am very worried. |
Re: pneumonia and high white blood cell count Any infection will give you a high white blood count, even a virus. Try not to worry as I think after a few days of the antibiotics she should be fine. Just have her rest and drink plenty of fluids. Your a very good daughter to be so concerned. Keep us posted and best of wishes..JJJ.... |
Re: pneumonia and high white blood cell count you were right and she is now home and resting. So she is doing well. |
