feeling unwell for a week now...

hi everyone, it started at the start of this week (july 17-18th), with a tickle in my throat, which progressed into a sore throat type thing.
For the first few days: it was basically a sore throat with no real runny nose, but I was feeling tired like I usually do when I have a cold etc.

After that: the sore throat started to feel fairly ok but then I got a cough with a weird feeling in my chest/lungs (when I cough, the feeling is unpleasant). I havent had chills or a fever yet. The tired feeling is still more or less here.

In the mornings I have been coughing up yellowish/greenish phlegm, and clear/cloudy phlegm. During the daytime, I havent been coughing up much, but if it is, its clear/cloudy type.

I went to the doctor today (his check up was checking my mouth, putting some instrument into my ear, and listening to my back). He wrote a prescription for antibiotics, but some hold onto this for a few days, and said try drinking a lot of water and inhaling steam for a few days.

Im not exactly sure what is going on, I havent really experienced anything like this before, my colds usually do last 7-10 days but they end with runny noses, not this cough/chest feeling. Any ideas or suggestions, considering its been a week now?

Re: feeling unwell for a week now...

Forgot to mention, even though my nose is not actively running, I still do need to blow it from time to time, just a bit.
