H1N1 questions

My aunt is currently in bad condition, she's been in ICU since last night and it sounds like she will be for four days at least. She has pneumonia, we were told, and the doctors just said that she might have the H1N1 virus. My mother and I have both been around her recently, I was in her house for about a day about five days ago. I don't seem to have any symptoms of flu myself, my mother is worried because she thinks she's been getting a cold for the last couple of days. My questions are: On average, how long does it take after exposure to start developing symptoms? And what should one do if they have been exposed to H1N1 virus?
