Question Anyone explain to me, the chemistry and biology of FEVER/FLU???

Dear all, i was just wondering ( i am now down with fever btw, lol),
how is it, that cold temperatures that deviate from your normal range can cause you to catch a cold?

Could this be explained by the fact that, bacteria already present in our body become more active?? If not, it doesnt seem to make sense that cold temp will "introduce" illness to our body.

FUrthermore, i was wondering, why when our throats start to ache, a fever usually follows. What is the science behind these illnesses?

thanks
