Could this be pneumonia?

I have had a chest cold for about two days now. I have a bad cough, shortness of breath, chills and now today have developed upper back pain in my ribs when I breathe. Could this be pneumonia?

It could just be that the muscles around your ribs are tired out from the coughing. Happens a lot.

Make an appointment with your doctor, if you still feel very lousy in the morning.

Re: Could this be pneumonia?

This sounds like the flu to me, but it is probably too early to tell. I've had the same symptoms, but for two months! Get lots of rest.

Two months! I hope you're feeling better by now!

You have to be careful with respiratory infections, it's natural to consider them a trifle and power through, but after two months, get yourself to a doctor!

Best of luck!

Re: Could this be pneumonia?

I definitely think that after three weeks of coughing you should get things checked out. I am on day seven and I am off to the doctor as my whole chest aches from all the coughing and my head rattles every time I cough! I hope it is not too serious that is all. If you google these symptoms you get some worrying responses!

Re: Could this be pneumonia?

I had the flu the first 2 two weeks of May and never really got over it. I am still sick and it has been a month.

I had what I thought was a severe sinus infection.

The suddenly I got worse from all this nasal congestion and coughing ---like OVERNIGHT! I got up Monday June 4 throwing up phlegm and weird stuff coming out of my nose!

I said to my husband this is either a sinus infection or pneumonia. I never felt that bad before. Sure enough, my doc sent me for a chest xray and it came back pneumonia.

He said I let it go on too long, but bear in mind I was dealing with it and suddenly I was knocked off my feet. Thank goodness I went in when I did!

I am exhausted, my chest and back hurt as well as my shoulders. Everytime I cough hard my head hurts. You might have either pneumonia or bronchitis.

No one can say for sure it is pneumonia without the chest Xray. YOu will have to go to a clinic or the hospital for that unless your doc has one of those machines. Oh, my upper arms hurt as well.

I am just sick all over.
