I saw my doctor about a cough with wheezing that I had for two weeks. He told me it was probably a virus and sent me home to rest. I went back to him after having it for two months and he put me on an antibotic for 5 days and ordered a chest x-ray. The chest x-ray results came back after I was done with the antibotic (which didn't make me better) and showed that I have pneumonia. Since the antibotic did nothing, the doctor is assuming that I have the viral type of pneumonia. It's been a week since the diagnosis and I am not feeling any better. Does anyone know how long pneumonia could last? I'm getting frustrated! I don't know if another antibotic should be tried or if I really just have to wait it out.
Two months is a long time. The only way to distinguish between viral and bacteria pneumonia for sure and to find the best antibiotic is a sputum sample, that is, stuff you cough up. You might need to see a different doctor.
