Rhinoplasty - at age 16? - Cosmetic / Plastic Surgery Message Board

Hello. I'm 15 now, and i have wanted to have rhinoplasty since I was 12 years old and hit puberty. Before i knew it, my nose grew and closely resembles my fathers! I desperately hate it.

Anyways, I have been researching about rhinoplasty and the recovery doesn't look hard to me. I had my tonsils removed in sixth grade, and then i could barely swallow anything for two weeks. I am fully prepared to do it, and my parents have agreed to let me get it next summer.

Has anyone here had such an operation at such a young age? What do you think about it? Even if you haven't, I'd like some of your opinions. I'm not quite sure how everyone at school would respond to the new "me".

And frankly, not having it isn't an option. I've had my heart set on this for awhile.

I don't know if you are male or female, but the youngest age that many plastic surgeons perform rhinoplasty on females is 16...and 18 or 19 for males. You just wanna make sure that you're pretty much done growing before you have the surgery. Good luck!

Just do your research. I've been wanting a rhinoplasty since I was 13, and I still haven't gotten it yet. I've been researching for years, and still learn something new all the time. I'm turning 18 at the end of the year, I plan to get mine as well next year. Probably this time next year I will have it done, or close to this time. Anyway, just do your research really thoroughly and find a good plastic surgeon, because you don't want to get stuck with something that you're not happy with. Make sure you and the surgeon are perfectly clear on what you want.

The doctors wouldn't touch me 'til I turned 18 (I'm female) but I went through puberty late (started period at age 15). But they just want to make sure u are fully grown cause you may grow into your nose (that's what they say, I never did). Pick a good doctor! The surgery I had at 18 didnt turn out well and I'm getting a revision one next month (11 years later). I pray this one looks good. But its true: rhinoplasty is unpredictable, there are no gaurentees.

You want it... your parents are OK with it... I say, as long as you do lots of research and find a reputable dr who doesn't have a problem with your age, GO FOR IT! I wanted it ever since the first time I heard of plastic surgery, probably when I was 8 or 9. But I didn't think my parents would take me seriously, and I knew they didn't have the money to pay for it, so I had to wait until I could finally come up with the money on my own. I'm 37 now, and just finally had my surgery on June 24th. My only regret is that I wish I could have done it years ago, because I know it would have changed so much about my life and my feelings about myself. I never knew what confidence felt like, and had to put up with wisecracks all my life. People either didn't know how much it hurt, or didn't care. I know what a difference it would have made for me, so I hope that you can go ahead and get this done next summer. Don't worry about what people might or might not say. If you want it badly, then go for it! Best of luck to you, and I hope you keep us updated when it's time for your surgery!
