Microdermabrasion for acne scars - Cosmetic / Plastic Surgery Message Board

HI, a few people replied to me that it may be better to consider other options for acne scars. so I researched and I decided that microdermabrasion MAY be more effective than lasers in removing acne scars as it slowly and progressively sands the skin down to a level that evens it out with the scars. I am very thankful to those that helped me, as I am glad I did not take the big risk to try laser while it may not even be necessary.
However, I would like some advice from anyone who has tried this, how many sessions were needed and how much of an improvement was seen? Also, is it necessary to do this treatment along with another method for mild/moderate acne scars?

All I can tell you is this: I am going for microdermabrasion (parisian peel), first treatment March 27. I'm going for 7 treatments, $780. I'm 42, never had acne. I have a scar from a spider bite, fine lines and wrinkles, especially around my mouth from smoking, and those 2 forehead lines. I'm not ready for laser on my lips. This is supposedly going to: Make skin softer, rejuvinate sun damage, great for pimple and acne scars, firm skin, take away spots etc. I'm very excited! I'll keep you informed! Wendy

hi,
i had microdermabrasion done after considering laser, but opted out because of the recovery time needed for lasers...i have had just one session done so far for the acne scars and i already see an improvement, but for most people i was told that its normally after 3-4 sessions. i'm having it done weekly for 10 weeks then should be able to reduce the number times i need to have it done...hope this helps. Take a look at the acne postings..i decided to have it done after reading Philasers posting and looking at his before and after pics.

yaz, for microdermabrasion, you should wait at least two weeks between treatments. doing it again so soon afterward may only be doing yourself a disservice.

might want to look into glycolic acid peels today. i just had one today, and overall, i'm more pleased than i was with microdermabrasion so far.

Thanks for the advice Ryan, i will look into glycolic peels too and giv that a go...did u notice a difference right away and how many peels are required for a good result ?
