Some people ARE more susceptible to capsulization. Once the capsule forms around the implant, that's it. What they USED to do (emphasis here on the words USED to do) is "crush" the breast. They would literally apply great amounts of pressure to the breast to break up the capsule!!

From what I understand, if it has occured, they can do prodedures to remove the capsular contraction, reopen the pocket and put in new implants, but that if you've gotten the capsulization once, chances are very high you'll just get them again. I'd think, however, so what....if you get them again, it still buys you some time without the capsule so that it'll take TIME for them to form again....and in the meantime you can be caspule-free.

The massage part is supposed to be for right AFTER you get them done, immediately following your sugery,- you are supposed to massage them regularly and frequently. It is THIS constant and ongoing massage that is "supposed" to help either prevent or postpone the capsular contractions from forming. If they've already formed it's too late and you cannot just massage them out.

Depending on how old the scars are, and where they are, you have a few options:

hydroquinone (sp?) forte - is a bleaching cream and that may help, but you need to use it very regularly and stay OUT of the sun.

vitamin-e

over the counter scar revision tapes - forgot the name but they look like bandaids and contain salycilic acid if I'm not mistaken. The theory being that the medicine is within the pad which is applied and left there with this bandaid looking piece of tape, and the occlusive seal opens the pores permitting the medicine to seep in and maintain moist, and the reports say the results have shown dramatic decrease in the appearance of scars. From what I've read they're talking about keloid TYPE scars (I don't know if it would work on real keloids though) but if the scar is raised, the chances are better this type of application could help flatten it out (vs: indentation, deep scars).

laser revision - they've gotten quite good at this!

excision - this is old school where they literally cut the scar out and make a new, finer-lined one.

A lot will depend on where your scar is and how old it is. If it is less than a year old, you may have to forego a lot of this because it's too new and healing is still taking place.
