Breast Surgery Scars - Cosmetic / Plastic Surgery Message Board

Hello all.
In December I had breast surgery to remove a tumor. Thank God it was benign. However, I'm having issues with the cosmetic aspect of the surgery. I'm 24 yrs. old and this is a big deal to me-(sorry to sound vain). It was a large tumor (golf ball size) and the incision had to be made on the top of my breast (12 o'clock area)about 2.5". The wound was healing very well and then began to keloid. I had a repeat surgery in Feb '03 (the Dr. didn't remove enough tissue) and went back in the same incision. I've heard that the chances of the scar keloiding again was minimal. Well, it has. And it is an awful sight. I am very self conscious of the scar and can't imagine having this thing continue to grow (as I've heard they just keep growing, and growing...)
I take Vitamin E capsules and even rub the oil on the scar. It makes it softer, but hasn't help much otherwise.

Can anyone recommend products/advice as to what can help minimize the appearance of the keloid (w/o surgery)? My surgeon doesn't seem to be concerned w/ it, but I know there has to be something out there. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I had a keloid on the back of my ear lobe when I was young, from piercing my ears. They removed it, and repierced the ear. The keloid came back and they removed it again, and said never to pierce it again because it would always come back and I'd eventually lose my earlobe. ANYWAY, maybe they can somehow remove the keloid scar?? Laser it down or something? Call a cosmetic surgeon and see what they say! Good luck!

I have a friend that had a breast reduction and had some problems with the keloid scars, her DR. gave her treatments of injectable cortisone (steroid) into the keloid, I think it was once a month for about 6 months, she did notice it starting to flatten and was less noticeable and her DR. did say that they very seldom go completely away. So she decided that she was happy enough with the way it looked and left it alone after that. She hasn't had any other problem with it coming back or anything....so guess it worked for her....Just thougt I would let ya know....
