Post search for top rhinoplasty surgeon

Hi All,
I am posting from Rome-Italy; two years ago I had rhinoplasty performed by a local top surgeon but it was a nightmare;my nose has been devastated...thus I am now seriously considering to travel abroad to have my revision because at this point I really need the best of the best in the world to adjust this disaster ...therefore I would really appreciate any feedback on this both for Europe or US: any suggestion on world top rhinoplasty surgeon ?
Thanks a lot in advance to anyone from the board who wants to help me

I'm no stranger to Esthetic/Cosmetic surgery, having had several procedures performed on myself over the past 15 years, which I refer to as long term low maintenance. As you can imagine, I've done extensive research on specific procedures and surgeons over this period of time. What I've found is that most surgeons have specific procedures that they specialize in or are best at. Very few are great at everything they do overall. Those limited few elit individuals I refer to as Esthetic Artist, because that have the ability to evaluate say the entire face, see what needs to be done to esthetically improve your looks, and are then able to do the procedures required to achieve the overall desired result...the big picture.

But, back to surgeon's that are best at specific procedures. I have found a surgeon in the US that I feel is amoung the best at doing Rhinoplasty. His name is Steven Denenberg, M.D. in Omaha, Nebraksa. He is a bit exspensive, but I have always believed that you get exactly what you pay for.

Another very important suggestion...do as much research on your own as possible and don't rush to make a decision until you have a good feeling that you have found the appropriate surgeon to do the work you desire. Know in your mind with NO doubt that this is the one for you. I can't stress this enough. I am only one person with one suggestion, so continue to look, even if you like my suggestion. If this is the one, you'll soon know after looking around for awhile.

Wishing you much luck.

Cool

Hi Andrea,
I know the dilema you are in as I too seek out a revision rhinoplasty surgeon. I have to agree with the advice by BestFoot4ward - research is key.

I'm going to look at the surgeon he posted. My search was brought me so far to Dr. Tobias (NYC), Dr. Yaremchuk (Mass), Dr. Weikel (Mass), and Dr. Toriumi of Illinois - current president of theAmerican Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Here is my criteria for selection to even consider having a consult:

(1) Doctor must specialize in Rhinoplasty
(2) Doctor must have numerous publications on technique in medical journals
(3) Schooling at a prestigious Universisty
(4) Residency at a prestigious hospital
(5) Plays a teaching role to some degree on new Rhinoplasty techniques.

This is just to make it to round two.

Now there are also a plethorae of opinions posted on all the plastic surgery message boards which some I find valuable and others not.

I have found that some posts are just "I like this doctor, or I dont like this doctor...." without given specific details. I think a lot of suregries do not hit their target because of mis-communication in the planning phase.

I will only consider surgery with a specialist who does imaging so that the goals are completely understood between physician/patient.

I look at B/A photos but with a grain of salt.
Mainly to weed out ones when the photos do not look so good.

Keep in mind what you want done on your nose when looking at photos - If you are like me; I need a refinement of a bulbous tip and a narrowing of the dorsum. I have thick nasal skin and scarring from the first procedure. (Which was done by the chief of PS at Mass Eye and Ear - Dr. Mack Cheney.)

When I see a before/after photo I want to see one where the patient was undergoing the same changes as I.
I dont find much merit in the 95% of the photos which show the removal of a hump. Much easier operation.

My final criteria with a surgeon would be that he/she should have some craniofacial talent. If bone work is required on the operation then I do not feel comfortable with anyone except someone who has experience with osteotomies - the cutting of bone.

Welp, this is where I am at - and I'd like to end by saying these message boards have been the most informative information centers for research.

Good Luck and I wish you the best!

peace
Saz

I would also reccomend Dr. John Seibert of NYC another great reconstructive surgeon, shoe just completed a very complicated 3rd rhino on my devasted nose. I would also look at Dr. Nick Tabbal, another great revisionist.
