Post Question about Rhinoplasty

Hi, I'm almost 21 years old, and half of my life, I've despised my nose. When I was 10, I was hit in the head with a door, and I think it clipped my nose as well, and left a bit of a bump. I can't tell if my nose just started to grow big because of my genes, or the accident. I also suffer from depression, so I don't tend to like my physical appearance very much. But I am most uncomfortable with my nose, I cannot stand to look at it in pictures...I'm very tiny and petite and it just looks so huge. Can anyone tell me what they know about rhinoplasty? Costs and such? Thanks a lot.

I actually just went for my first consultation for a nose job I too am having a bumb removed, I went to someone in NYC I was quoted $9800 which is a bit on the high side but not for Manhattan. My Dr. also has a good reputation and this is not something you want to skimp on. Look for someone who only specializes in facial plastic surgery.

almost 10,000??? Lol that's funny. Anyway, anywhere else it's about 3,000. It can be done under local anestesia so you don't need to go to the hospital. That makes it nice. It also reduces risks as you are breathing for yourself as opposed to going under general anestia in the hospital, not to mention the huge hospital fees. Mine was not very painful, I was back to my normal activities in a week. Good luck, it's a wonderful thing.

Hi Tristesa,

I am 31 and had two rhinoplasties when I was 14 and
two more when I was around 23.
When I was 14 I knew nothing much about it and come to find out the surgeon my folks took me to was not
board certified yet. big mistake.

My nose had a very very bulbous tip as well as well as a large profile and wide dorsum. To be honest I have only seen one person in my life who had a nose as large as mine; so to say the least, my surgery would be the challenge of the century to any surgeon.

When I was 23 I went to the Chief of Plastic Surgery
at Mass Eye and Ear. He came highly recommended and did a good job reducing the size - but just not enough.

From the above I would say the two most important aspects of rhinoplasty are (1) Finding a very skilled surgeon who's specialty is rhinoplasty.
(2) Being as precise as possible on what you want done.
getting digital imaging would be excellent to confer
the results that you want. I bought my own PS imaging software as my next endeavor I am not leaving anything up to the "aesthetic" eye of any doctor.

If you keep reading up on this board you find a plethorae of valuable information on rhinoplasty.
When you start putting a list of doctors together its good to see before and after photos as well as checking credentials. I use the photos to weed out results that I dont think were top notch.

But also - especially with rhinoplasty as each nose is so unique - when someone suggests a surgeon because they had a good rhinoplasty with him/her - you need to know what they were having changed on their nose and is that what you are having?

I would value a surgeon more if I could see before and after photos of noses like mine. A doctor could be great at removing a hump and not too good with nasal tips. So its good to find a reputable doctor who has
performed the specifics of a rhinoplasty that you seek.

My suggestion is to start my identifying what you want changed and then putting a list of doctors together for consults - and go to many before making a decision.

hope this is helpful
peace (<-:
