Varicose Vein Surgery......PLEASE HELP - Cosmetic / Plastic Surgery Message Board

Has anyone ever had a varicose vein removed by surgery?? I had a vein in the back of my knee injected by schlerotherapy a few years ago but it did nothing so I decided to have it surically removed two months ago. Ever since the surgery I have had nothing but problems! My leg looks like I have been hit with a baseball bat and it hurts like crazy. It looks worse and feels worse now more than the actual vein ever did. It feels like there is a huge lump underneath my skin where the vein was removed. Anyone else ever go through this?????????

I'm not sure if I'll be able to help much, I know that Schlerotherapy may only last about a year or two, depending. I'm not sure about the surgery, one of my friends had surgery a couple of years ago, I think it went okay, not really sure though. I'll find out and see what I can find out and I'll let you know. What kind of surgery did you have, stripping, EVLT, ect? I myself have been doing a lot of research into different kinds of treatments for my Varicose Veins. How did your Schlerotherapy work for you, did it work all? Did you have any side effects from it? I'll be talking to my friend tomorrow, I'll find out and I'll let you know.

I had schlerotherapy 7 years ago for a big varicose vein on the back of my leg. It worked great but another one formed right above it. The new one that formed is the one that I had removed by surgery. I did see a cosmetic surgeon Monday and he said the doctor didn't close the vein off after he took it out. He also said he could fix my leg without surgery. Yeah!! The only thing is that I have to pay out of pocket to have it fixed. Choose your doctor carefully!!! I wouldn't have surgery; I would do schlerotherapy.

I am so sorry the doctor you went to did this to you. I hope you get better soon and that everything goes okay.
I've found a Vascular doctor that will do Schlerotherapy, I've been trying to find people to talk to that have had different types of treatments. Did the treatment for Schlerotherapy hurt when you had it done, and did you have any side effects from it (staining, allergic reaction, ect.)?
Some people say it's worth it and some say it's not, I guess I'll have to do it and take my chances. I wish there was a board just for Vascular Disease and Vascular surgery.

I loved the schlerotherapy. There were no problems at all. You can't even tell there was a vein there and there are no scars or staining. There really isn't any recovery time except you have to wear the support hose for a while. I just wish I would have had the same thing done for the vein behind my knee instead of letting a doctor remove it! I will know from now on!!! Good luck to you!
