Post thinking about rhinoplasty

I've always wanted to have rhinoplasty on my nose for as long as i can remember. The problem is, I'm chicken. I've seen the procedure on TV and am quite horrified by what they do, I'm hoping I could get a closed rhinopplasty. but would like to hear from anyone who's gone into the surgery with too much information...also am scared of the black eyes and recovery from it...should I just bite the bullet?

Thanks

Hi!
I just had my second revision and I just want you to know that you have nothing to worry about!! Just make sure you have researched a good Dr. and you feel comfortable with him/her. Know exactly what the dr. will do to your nose and what the expected results will be. Of course, you can't get exact results-but be sure you are informed of what is trying to be achieved, and that you BOTH agree. The surgery is very easy to recover from. They only thing you will experience is a stuffy nose (like a bad cold). The brusing is generally minor (expect moderate bruising if the nose bone is cracked) but it goes away very quickly. When you go in to surgery, it is really just like closing your eyes and then opening them up again and there you are with a fixed nose. You won't feel any pain and you will get some pain killers for later. I didn't even use mine up. I have heard it is the easiest surgery to recover from of the cosmetic surgeries.

I completely understand being scared. I had a nose job about 4 weeks ago and still can't believe I'm talking about it in the past tense. This was my first surgery ever -- first time being put under, first time recovering from anything other than the flu. Surprisingly enough, I experienced almost no pain (with the exception of the first few visits to the doctor post-op) and moderate bruising. It is a bit shocking to see yourself looking like you've been in an accident, but you do get used to it and it fades within a couple of weeks. The most difficult aspect of my recovery, however, was not physical but emotional. I'm not sure whether this is a common experience, but I became somewhat depressed several days after the surgery. I've since heard that general anesthesia can sometimes cause depression as the drugs pass through your system. Has anyone else heard about this or experienced it? All in all, however, I'm very glad I went through with it. It's now 4 weeks later and I feel back to my old self. I think you'll know when and if you're ready. Good luck with whatever decision you make.

Hi,
It took me 10 years to get the courage up to have rhinoplasty, but I am so happy I did it. My nose bothered me for so long, and after the surgery, I became so happy about the way I looked. There was no pain at all; it took 2 weeks for the bruising to go away and I used some Dermablend concealer and no one could even tell I had the bruising. I had a wonderful surgeon, which of course, is key. I also had general anaesthesia, and it wore off after the first day, and at day 2, was up and about with full energy.

I am going to get rhino done I dont care about the pain but I'm afraid when its done and I have that bandage around my nose and take it off in anticipation and dont like what I see. Those few seconds right before you unwrap it is somewhat fearful. Is this even what happens or do you get to see it right after there finished performing surgery?
