has anyone had problems with implants? - Cosmetic / Plastic Surgery Message Board

hey

i'm considering getting breast implants (yes, maybe i HAVE sold out, but i don't care anymore) i was reading up on it and heard about all the risks, but i was wondering if there is anyone who actually had the problem of an implant busting, or whathaveyou? any replies would be really helpful, i've heard some horror stories, but that could just be like the "chances of getting struck by lightening" thing, you know? i'm really worried about the risks, but i am really unsatisfied with my body......what to do?

I had my first set of breast implants 27 years ago.
Saline over the muscle. They started to get hard immediately. They eventually became very hard and distorted. The incision was made through the nipple.
I lost all sensataion. I waited 20 years before I had a redo. I was convinced that I was being punished for being so vain. I then had saline under the muscle and am happy with them now. Only thing is the size. Looks like I had a breast reduction. Didn't communicate too well with the doctor and I was at first just relieved to think I would have soft breasts. Anyway my biggest regret still is the lack of sensation...I feel no touch....nothing...it use to be a sexual turn on now I feel totally detached.

I had saline breast implants and it was the worst mistake of my life. I had them under the muscle, and in 8 months my previous good health was destroyed. I suffered all kinds of miserable symptoms, like fatigue, vision problems, brain fog, memory problems, concentration problems, muscle weakness. I had the implants removed and it took over 3 years for my problems to clear up and in the end I was diagnosed with Hashimotos autoimmune thyroid disease. I thought saline implants were the safest on the market, but for me, they brought a nightmare to my life, cost me huge amounts of money, took away my robust health, and left me with scars, loss of sensation and this autoimmune condition. Save your money...

I just have to jump in here

It is estimated that 15-25% of the population has thyroid disease, many of those still undiagnosed...so there is no way to know if someone would have gotten anyway, since it's quite common.

I would think twice about it. I ve had mine for 21 years now and am waiting for the day I have the money and nerve to remove them, I hate surgery. Mine are beautiful but not worth the emotional havoc Ive had. I am having some health problems now that I do not know yet if could be related but really am concerned. I did have nerve damage right after surgery. My nipples are TOO sensitive which can almost be painful at times and embarrasing as they stay erect always. the sides of my breasts are somewhat numb, my scar area under my arms are numb. I have silicone and saline combination implants and they are under the muscle. I would love to see a forum somewhere just for breast implants and the various manufactorers of them to compare how they are doing in various patients who has had them long term. I know one day soon I will have to bite the bullet for my peace of mind and remove them. If I do, I wont replace them with saline ones. I might get some reconstructive surgery to pull the loose skin up, but no more implants.

cristyann (I have to add the cosmetic result I had was very good and you would not know to this day i had implants), I will miss them when I let them go cosmetically, but not emotionally. It is so bizare because I got them to feel better about my looks and now they are making me feel bad emotionally, my ex boyfriend talked me into getting them, did not take alot though because I was teased as a younger girl about not being well endowed.
