Post Considering skin tag removal for child.

Hello to all......

I have a 2 year old who was born with a tiny skin tag on her ear. The Dr. would not remove it when she was born. We wound up having to switch Dr.'s when she was a few months old becase of insurance and her new Dr. was amazed that it wasn't removed at birth. Now, it it starting to bug my daughter and she keeps pulling on it, so I am thinking about having it removed. Does anyone have any information on this?

Thanks.

Hey! I'm a new member here, and I came her to talk about tummy tucks--but I came across this topic--which is cool because I have personal experience in this area. I WAS one of those babies with the skin tag near her ear! How cool is that? I didn't know this happened to anyone else. Yes, my mother did have it removed within hours of my birth, right there in the hospital. It only left the smallest little zit-like scar--barely even noticeable. If you remove this thing, now, your daughter will definately love you for it, later. Can you imagine having something like that hanging from the side of your face? Especially when it's so easy to take care of. The neatest part of this whole skin tag thing is that it is what turned me on to plastic surgery in the first place. When I was 15, I was stupid and got my tragus (the cartilage in the ear right next to the face) peiced with a gun by my boyfriend (now husband). The earring became embedded in my ear, and I had to go and get it removed by a plastic surgeon. While I was there, the surgeon saw the little zit-like scar right next to where he was having to work on my ear, and he asked me if I wanted it anymore. I said "no", and he just lopped it off right there for no charge at all. I love that man. Now, you can't even tell it was ever there. I just thought that the surgeon was so nice, and I never really liked that little scar anyway. Changed all of my ideas about plastic surgery--now I'm old and fat and want more

Anyways, yeah, I think you should have your daughter's tag removed. She won't like it when she starts school. Do you have to go to a plastic surgeon for this, considering they did mine in the hospital at the time of my birth? A plastic surgeon would probably do a better job, anyway--no zit-like scars and such. Good luck!

Hey Emily.

Thanks for posting. I do have every intention of having this skin tag removed before my daughter starts school. The only problem I am having is that the one Dr. we went to wants to put her under anesthesia and remove it in an outpatient surgery setting and I just think that is nuts! I don't want her to have to go through that. I figured that if they just snipped it or tied it off that there would be a little stub left, but later in life we can deal with that. I wish the Dr. would have just snipped it when she was born then she wouldn't know what was going on and it wouldn't be so traumatic.

Dang! This IS turning into a mess! Do you mean that he wants to put her under GENERAL anesthesia?! If so, i definately don't think that is necessary. I think a little shot to that area would be just fine. That is what the doctor did to me the second time around (to remove the stubb), and I felt nothing but the little ***** of the anesthesia needle. That wouldn't be fun for your daughter, but it's better than full general anesthesia. I definately don't think that is necessary at all. It might be a little to painful at this point to tie it off (I think that is how my mother had mine removed in the first place). I don't know... I'm so sorry that this is turning into such a mess I shouldn't have been. Stupid doctor!
