US Plastic Surgery and "Recourse"???
What I don't understand is this:
I'm considering rhinoplasty and have been to many message boards, forums, websites, and other resources, over the last month. I am considering all options, including the surgeons in the U.S., and surgeons internationally.
Whenever the word "foreign" is mentioned, the immediate response is always that it is not a good idea because, not necessarily because of the skill of the surgeon, but the fact that if something goes wrong, there is no "recourse."
But what about "recourse" in the United States? These message boards are filled with thousands of horror stories about botched nose jobs, expensive surgeries gone wrong, people who are now dipping into their pockets for a fortune to pay for revision rhinoplasty.
So this is what I don't understand.
Unless there is some kind of medical aberration, in which a surgeon not only botches the surgery, but also harms the patient, there is NO recourse in the US. Most cosmetic procedures are subjective, and surgeons cannot make promises. So, there is no recourse.
Why is it, then, that people are so very afraid of foreign surgeons, some from countries with excellent reputations, such as Brazil/ Costa Rica? If they botch the job, they are equally as accountable as a surgeon in the US...zero accountable.
