breast augmentation done in dr. office? - Cosmetic / Plastic Surgery Message Board

I have a consult apt. next week but im curious about something first.
There are two different people who do it in my area. There is a 400.00$ difference beteen the two of them. the higher one preforms it in the hospital the cheaper one in his office. Is this safe to do in the office? His nurse said hes been doing it like this for 27 yrs no problem. Should I be concerened? thanks

Actually the surgery isnt performed in the office. Most PS office's have a surgical center............which is like a mini hospital. It has everything they need.........and is set up like an operating room in a hospital. If procedure's are done in an actual hospital the cost is much higher. Nothing to worry about..............i dont think many PS do their surgerie's in hospitals.

It is safer done in the hospital as they will the have the resuscitating equipment needed if your heart was to stop beating for some reason. Also, I read that most deaths that happen as a result of plastic surgery (which are rare, mind you, but any surgery has its risks) happen when the surgery was performed in an office, not a hosptial. Doctors offices just do not seem to have the same high standards as hosptials. I would just feel safte in a hospital-if I were you I would pay the extra $400.00. Better safe than sorry.

they are not done in an office. The office would mean a dr's examining room. They are done in a small hospital and you'll be well cared for . They are often referred to as a "surgical suite." and are usually quite close to a hospital.
I doubt if a person gasping for breath and on the edge of death in a surgical suite would just be left to die. That's ridiculous. They have plenty of equipment there.

The thing that I would want to be sure of is that the anesthesiologist was highly qualified, and in those suites you could get one who isn't. You would want to ask if the anesthesiologist used in their surgical suite is board certified and how long they have been practicing. The anesthesiologist is a very important part of any surgery.
