labia reduction

Just wondering how the girls are doing that have had labia surgery. Warmbreeze are you doing any better? I went for my consult and it went well. We are waiting on insurance to see if they will pay. I'm having it done either way. I will write more to you a little later, hope you are doing okay.

Re: labia reduction

Hi Janart, I'm sorry it took me so long to check back. I went to my post op appt. It was my second surgery since surgery. She took stitches out the first time, but I was still to swollen to find all the stitches. During the second appt she found some more stitches that needed to be taken out. She did disolvable stitches inside, and for the outside incision did the removable stitches. Since mine came apart the first time she didn't want to take any chances with having only disolvable stitches. It's been a little over 3 weeks now, there is still a little stiffness, tenderness and swelling, but not bad. No sex for 6 weeks, and there is no way I would want to right now either. She also had me buy something called Aquaphor healing ointment. I think that's how it's spelled. The purpose was to help with any rubbing on the incision when I walked and it repels liquid, it seem to work well.

So far it looks pretty good, I'm not 100% happy though. Because of the botched job the first time, my repaired labia is shorter than the other side. One reason I wanted this surgery is for more symmetry (sp?). It's do-able though and I have to accept it. I'm not going to spend thousands to get perfection. If I wasn't a long time happily married woman and had to go through feeling insecure about what a man would think of the looks of my goodies, then I would be more upset. At least it's not rubbing on my underwear.

When is your surgery? Are you only having one side done?

Re: labia reduction

Hey Warmbreeze great to hear from you. My surgery hasn't been scheduled yet, we are waiting on my ins. co. to see if they will pay. This doctor said they usually do not pay because it is considered cosmetic. But he worded it in a way that they will know it is causing me pain. My ins. co. told me it could take thirty days and it has now been about 2 weeks. I'm having it done regardless but this doctor charges alot for the surgery and that doesn't cover the hospital charge. The doctor told me there are two ways he can do it. One would be the wedge like you had and the other is contouring the labia. I guess that means not just wacking off the skin and leaving it . He said the reason he started doing this method is because he was having woman say that the darker color down there showed age and they didn't want it there. He said he has had a few of the wedge that he's done come apart like yours. He said you don't know how it is healing until it comes apart, does that make since? He said he would do it either way I wanted. This doctor does about 2 a week. He is a urogynacologist. So he does alot of bladder surgeries etc. He has had people come from all over the world for him, so hopefully he will do good for me. I am scheduling it as soon as I hear something. I read that it could take up to 2 mths for you to actually know what the labia will look like so don't get too discouraged. Just keep that in your mind, thats something to look forward to anyway. If you are still not completely happy try not to let it effect you sexually. What I mean is I think it will start looking better with time. Just remember why you did the surgery in the first place and enjoy wearing what you want to. Or are you able to yet?
Oh I asked this doc about keeping it dry or using oinment. He said bath like you want to but dry the area with a hair dryer to make sure it is as dry as possible. Sitz baths are okay for the first day or two, ice for the first day only. He said he usually doesn't recommend ointment, he said its the same as other surgeries he does. But I may wait and see on that one lol. I have heard of the ointment that you are using. My sons dermatologist recommended it for his lips when he was on Accutane. LIPS that was funny lol. Sorry
Well please stay in contact with me and let me know how you are doing. I really would like to talk with you when I have mine. I check here for you almost everyday lol. Take care girl, TTYS

Re: labia reduction

Hi Janart, I wonder why it would take this long for the insurance company to decide whether they are covering it or not. When I was having my doctor's office check I knew the same day. It was just a phone call. My insurance is Healthnet. My doctor did the same thing, she said it was a matter of which codes they use to describe the surgery and the reason for it. I hope yours comes through.

Your Doctor is right, I have changes daily. Today I was happy. I think I'll be happy with the final results. With your doctor doing that many a week you should be in good hands. It's amazing the difference in the aftercare that is given by doctors. My doctor said no baths at all for 2 weeks. Then at 2 weeks she changed it to 3 to 4 weeks, which I thought was overkill. I've been taking baths anyway, but I don't soak I just wash and get out. My incision is completely closed so I'm not worried about infection of the disolvable stitches being exposed to the hot water.

I love your joke on the Aquaphor being for lips, that was hilarious, lol. I'll try to check the board more often, I'm anxious to see what happens with you insurance company.
