RHINOPLASTY Questions about doctor - Cosmetic / Plastic Surgery Message Board

Hey guys ,

Ok i found a doctor by the name of Andrew J. Miller he is located in New Jersey. He seems like a good doctor but i did a research scan on him and it says he is a Otolaryngologest Doctor. Is this the same thing as a plastic surgeons ? If anyone has had any surgery from this Doctor or heard anything about it him i would appretiate it.

No a plastic surgeon is board certified by a plastic surgery board. The doctor you described only does ear, nose and throat surgery. There is no telling if he is skilled in cosmetic surgery.

I made a similar mistake. I went to a "Cosmetic Surgeon" that did his residency in Otolaryngology. Unfortunately, Dr. Michael Sullivan (Col, OH)
didn't have the skill or expertise to do a rhinoplasty or chin implant. His work was shoddy and even after a second attempt, he never did get it right! My friends and family were so disappointed that I would go to someone with such poor credentials, and they now feel bad for the outcome that I must live with until I save up the $20K to have it fixed. If it weren't for anti-depressants and psychological counseling, I'm not sure where I'd be today. I was such a happy and vibrant person before the surgery, but Dr. Sullivan changed all of that. Do your homework and make sure you have a well-qualified person do it. Don't go for the cheapest doctor or the one who boasts a "freestanding outpatient surgical facility" or a fancy website full of b.s. Get pictures and references, and keep an eye on all the online healthboards, blogs, messageboards, etc.

Sorry to hear you were not pleased with your results. This is long winded but I think it will help.
Fanny and stronger are right a otolaryngologist is trained in ear, nose and throat issues, based on that alone they are not qualified as a cosmetic surgeon.
They can specialize in any area of ENT care now if you find a cosmetic surgeon who is a otolaryngologist specializing in facial care and has been trained in facial cosmetic surgery( board certified of course) then you have a winner

because they understand the functional aspects of your each part of the face and the aesthetic aspects as well due to the training is cosmetic surgery.
Since you will be going in for revision your best bet is to find an otolaryngologist who is a board certified facial and reconstructive surgeon. It would not hurt if the doctor specializes in rhinoplasty.
The reason you have to get very specific about training and experience is because you to do not want to have a pretty nose but can't breathe or anything crazy like that. I was comfortable with my doctor because he had everything I needed for the best results possible. This are some of his credentials

They have to be AMBS certified to be official Plastic Surgeons. Facial Plastic Surgery is not AMBS certified. Stick with an official board certified Plastic Surgeon because they have the official two or more years of training at a medical university on how to perform all plastic and reconstructive surgery, which also includes safety guidelines and intense testing to ensure learning.

Doctors with so called "Cosmetic surgery" or "facial plastic sugergy" training does NOT make them official plastic surgeons.
