I think, if you are really worried about depression post surgery, you need to explore why you think you may be prone to it before you go in. Are you worried about people's reactions? are you worried about your own reactions to the change? are you worried that one area in your life you've fantasized to become drastically better after surgery, stays the same b/c you are the same person before and after? are you worried that the surgery will change you?
I don't think depression is a common concern of surgery, and I do think that sometimes if you have a feeling you will be depressed you can coax your body into it. So I think you need to do a lot of soul-searching and pin point your concerns, and talk about it until you feel comfortable with either or not going through with surgery, here or with a therapist
