rhinoplasty revision - same surgeon? - Cosmetic / Plastic Surgery Message Board

If you had a rhinoplasty, and were displeased with the outcome, would you go back to the same surgeon to have a revision?

I had one about six years ago, and I hate the results. It's crooked. I can't breath. It looks cartoonish. It just gives me the impression that the surgeon lacked skill or vision, or just didn't care. It actually reminds me of the cartoon Doonesbury.

However, I have been corresponding with another surgeon, whose skill in rhinoplasty revision seems to be pretty respected by the online community, and he actually recommended that I go back to my original surgeon.

That makes me pretty nervous, considering how bad I think he did the first time. Revisions are supposed to be even more difficult. But, if this expert surgeon is recommending I go back then there must be something I'm missing. Anyone have any opinion or perspective?

I am in the exact same bind -- to return or not to the same doctor.

Two other doctors have told me to go back and "keep asking for what I want," as though it may take multiple procedures! Perhaps they know that sometimes, even with them, it takes several operations to get it right?

I don't know. I really hate the results, so it's hard to go back...

Has anyone else gone back to the same surgeon and gotten an improvement?

I was in the same situation as you. I had a bad primary surgery. Was told to go back to the same surgeon and I did. That is a huge regret!! I suggest consulting with a couple more doctors. I am seeking a revisionist now, but the surgery is more complex since I have had 2 already. Good luck.

I wouldn't go back to the same doctor. I just need the tip of my nose reduced a bit. It wasn't right so I went back and he agreed and redid it. Well he took out too much cartlidge on one side and now to get it corrected a bit of cartlidge would need to be removed from behind my ear. This was a pretty well respected surgeon but his speciality was breast implants. He really botched up a friend's nose. It was a mess!
No I would look for someone who specializes in redos

Did your surgeons charge you for the revisions?

Do any of you know of a revision specialist that is affordable? I emailed a certain Dr. Toriumi, asking for an estimate on the cost a procedure, and his assistant told me it would cost $25,000 plus another $9,000 plus a fee for the anesthesiologist, which I will never in my life be able to afford. But, I feel like even if my original surgeon redid my nose for free, I still might go to someone else instead.
