My entire life I had felt self-conscious about the large hook nose that I was born with. I had just turned 50 and although I had the spirit of a 30 year old, I looked years older with large pockets under each eye and a chin that was starting to sag with age.



Initially, I went to a well-known and recognized San Francisco plastic surgeon. This surgeon refused to reconstruct my nose. He said that too often his male patients were dissatisfied by the result and that I would not be pleased by the outcome. I begged him for a referral to a different doctor that specialized in nose reconstruction. He told me that he only trusted one physician in Northern California and gave me the name of Ronald Gruber, MD.



Dr. Gruber immediately set me at ease and said there would be no difficulty in reconstructing my nose. He explained the procedure and answered a lot of questions that I had. How long would the procedure take? How long would the recuperation take? Would I be in a lot of pain? By the time the initial consultation was over, I had decided to bundle my nose reconstruction, eye lift (to remove the bags under my eyes) and a small chin liposuction to reduce the sagging under my chin. About three weeks after the initial consultation, I had the surgery.



The surgery took place in Dr. Gruber’s Ambulatory Surgery Center on an outpatient basis. I had no post-surgical complications. The bandages came off a few days after surgery and I had virtually no pain at any time. Eventually, I got to see my new nose. It was so natural-looking that no one ever guesses that it is a “nose job.”



It’s now seven years later and I still send Dr Gruber notes thanking him for changing my life. People think that I am at least 10 years (or more) younger than my real age. And, yes, some people who have just met me comment that I have a great profile. I just smile and say “thank you.”
