I got diagnosed with mild TMJ and recently I have been getting the
pain in the chest area around the ribs. I went to my GP and he said
that this is something called "Costochondritis" and prescribed
Motrin 600 MG (Prescription) 3 times a day.
The pain goes on and off...it will be there once in a few days and
it goes down with the medication.
This is what I have found on the web related to - Costochondritis.
Costochondritis - the cartilage of your rib cage, particularly the cartilage
that joins your ribs to your breastbone, becomes inflamed.
The pain from costochondritis (kos-toe-KHON-dri-tis) may
occur suddenly and be intense.
The location of the pain is different.
Costochondritis causes your chest to hurt when you push on your
sternum or on the ribs near your sternum. Heart attack pain is
usually more widespread, and the chest wall usually isn't tender.
Does anyone here suffer from this kind of pain with TMJ.
Any feedback is appreciated.
Thanks,
Paul

I never heard of this kind of TMJ before My TMJ is my jaw, jaw poping, neck pain, shoulder pain and headaches sonetimes. I also have to wear a splint 24/7 and I only can eat easy to chew foods.
i hv chest pains too. always tot i was having heart attacks. went to gp and did ecgs. all normal. dr said muscle pain. no idea if it is costocondritis. read abt it b4. i still hv chest pains on and off. sharp pain.but dun know exactly where. no breathing difficulties.
My tmd started abrubtly - my jaw actually moved out of alignment overnight - whatever caused it also affected the C1 vertebrae or atlas which is what your head rests on and this affected the clavical (one protruded more than the other) and then my sternum (rib area) and then my hips. It has taken 2 years of chiro treatments to clear all of that up and I still have pain in those areas only not as bad. You may want to see a chiro and be checked for alignment b/c if your jaw is out of balance or alignment it can be affecting the cervical spine and the rest of the body as well.
