Post Costochondritis (rib pain)...ice or heat?

I have fibro and for the past 6 months have costochondritis. My doctor took a chest x ray to rule out anything else. My rheumatologist says use heat, but another doctor says ice packs. Does anyone ele get this, and what does your dr. recommend?

Terri, I get shots in my chest and back. We personnaly find heat very helpful. We know they say not to sleep on a heating pad. We have for years used the under sheet heater. It's a heated matress cover. We also use the heating pad when the other isn't hot enough or the rest of us is too hot. My husband has FMS and other back problems and I have FMS, CFS, and spinnal degeneration. It is a trial and error process to find what works for you. Take care and good luck, Kim

Terri: I have experimented with both ice and heat for my muscular pain. Usually the heat helps my muscles stretch out and not become hard. With my joint pains(from arthritis)I often sat on an ice pack(yes, it did look silly, but who cares if it works?). Get well, ya hear? al
