So a while back I was diagnosed with costochondritis after being tested using MRI's EKG's and X-rays. I went to multple doctors with one giving me the diagnosis, and others pretty much just agreeing with him (even had a pulminologist check me out). Anyway that was around 6-8months ago and the pain has not stopped, I have had good days with it, and bad days with it but it has not once stopped for even a single day. I have tried anti-inflamitories and heating packs, and even steroids that were perscribed to me. Nothing has worked and I have read about the condition and it has been said everywhere that it should clear up after a few weeks, and after this many months I am starting to get discouraged and depressed-especially since I have been gaining weight. I was wondering what should my next step be, should I see some kind of specialist, should I hope and pray, should I just get another opinion? PLEASE HELp!!
hi. what are exactly your symptoms? i had something similar to costochondritis. after surgery and lymph node removal for breast cancer, i had severe tenderness, pain, and sensitivity to my ribcage on the right side. i couldnt shower because it was so sensitive. doc at first dx costo, then said it could have been shingles. he said that sometimes shingles dont show up with a lot of the bumps. i had a severe attack in 2002, and just this past year, april, it came back again. this time the dx was pinched nerve. i take cymbalta for the pain, and i have lidoderm patches. they help tremendously. i hope this helps you
Ill see what I can do about all that. But I havent had surgery ever. The symptom is just a preasure like pain right around and on the sternum. I'm not sure if any tests can reveal a pinched nerve or shingles, but I have done x-rays, ekg, and mri over the area, and actually I just visited the doctor again and they are going to do more blood work and ordered another xray and I am supose to talk to another doc that specializes in muscle or something of that sort. So we will see how things go but thank you fro the response
