Just wondering any conditions that can be overlooked from being diagnosed costochondritis ?
For example pain on your left side and some weird sensations could that ever have something to do with an ulcer?
Personally I've gotten ekg's and been to cardiologist few months ago and they think this has nothing to do with that so I just wonder if there are any specialists I can see that may be able to check out some other things.
Anything else costochondritis can be misdiagnosed as or do you think weird sensations come with costochondritis ?
It took a few months until my dr. figured out this is what i had, i ended up have over $20,000 of gastro testing done only to be diagnosed with costo. My pain is in the middle of my breast bone and radiates thru my back, sometimes i cannot even breathe it hurts so bad. I was put on Mobic for 3 months and it seems to have subsided for now, i get flare ups when i wear underwire bras, crazy... but so painful. What wierd sensations are you having???? I cried for a week on vacation last year thinking i had a hole in my stomach! it took some time to be diagnosed.

I guess I can always feel it around the left side of my chest, which is also why when I first started getting it I went to the emergency room a few times and even to the cardiologist who told me I shouldn't worry about it.
When I say weird sensations what I mean is the way it feels is sometimes hard to describe but I'll try to -
A lot of times I get heartburn from it, I seem to have small burps a lot (not sure what this means) but i feel the burps at the bottom of my throat, My left arm and leg tingles sometimes, sometimes my chest is slightly tingly and the worst thing is it feels like a weight in the left side of my chest or a stabbing sometimes.
I've noticed the only thing that really seems to help is keeping my mind active and doing stuff on the internet or whatever I'm doing. What makes me wonder if it could be gastro related is the feeling of heartburn or small burps but I wonder maybe that could be a part of costochondritis.
At least since I've been diagnosed I feel more comfortable having a diagnosis and haven't been to the hospital since even though it has been disruptive at times.
It also kills my sleep sometimes and it seems to be worst when I try to lay down its hard to get comfortable cause it feels almost like a stabbing in my chest sometimes and I don't know if its the lack of sleep but sometimes I feel a little weaker too through out the day and lethargic. I just hope its not something more than costochondritis. But i did get blood tests at the time of diagnosis for my doctor and everything seemed normal then.
You should go to a gastroenterologist, they can scope you, sounds to me like yiou have a form of acid reflux, it may be a good idea to consult with a doctor to see if they can scope you, they will know in 5 minutes if there is anything going on in your esophogus and upper stomach. Laying down and having issues is a sure sign of acid. If you want to try taking over the counter prilosec for a few weeks, it's about $`14.00 for 14 pills. I take one every day in the morning, i bet you feel better in a week, especially sleeping, let me know! Have a great day!

Thanks! I'm ok, sometimes not so good other times seem fine. Sometime I feel like I'm weaker sometimes like yesterday at the end of the day my body felt so heavy when I'd stand, but who knows could be cause of the winter.
I know its been a few months, but you are one of the first people I have heard that has similar problems to mine. I have been tested for heart, digestive and etc. problems. My doctor thinks its all in my mind. It starrted with just some pain/tighness below the sternum. It got to the point where bending especially would cause intense pain here that would radiate to back, and sometimes to the left neck/jaw. That is why I thought it was my heart, but it does seem to be with movements, bending (is the worse), but also with stairs sometimes (maybe the bouncing), a tiny bit if my I am sitting with bad posture and have my chin down to long. Morning is always worse, maybe because I am tight. Please let me know if this sounds like you and how to feel better.
If you could try to get a prescription for Mobic, it really helped me with the pain, my doctor diagnosed it after all my stress tests came back normal and upper GI. it comes back every now and then when i am stressed and after taking the Mobic, it works itself out. It's very painful and frustrating, I know! Take care

My pain started mid chest and radiated to my back, I have a senstivie eshopugus and have been on prilosec for years, so i just thought it was a flare up, after an upper gi and and then a stress test for my heart, all came back normal, my dr. diagnosed costochonditus. It hurt straight thru to my upper back, top of rib cage and just hurt constantly, once i was on the mobic for 7 days, i felt like a new person, i took it for 6 weeks and seem to be fine, this happened last March, I am a little worried since I have been having twinges of pain this week, but have the prescription in case I need it. I did not have pain in my neck.

Hi, so glad to read some one else has the pain in there jaw with this. That is the part that convinced me it was a heart attack, the pain is unbearable at times. I hope you get some relief soon.
Babydoll, my rheumy will not prescribe Mobic. He put it in a class with vioxx and the others that got pulled off the market for causing heart attacks. I had tried mobic for foot pain thru my foot dr and noticed it helped the ribs. That script was only good for a weeks worth to get the foot inflammation down.
About all that's been offered are steroid shots, cortizone in the rib cage. I can't stand the thought of that, so I just ride it out.
