Ulcerative colitis and new research
A recent article in the medical journal Aliment Pharmacol Ther. 2003 Feb;17(3):409-14, entitled,
"Patients with refractory Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis respond to dehydroepiandrosterone" by Andus T concluded that DHEA was effective and safe in patients with refractory Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. A number of patients went into remission.
A second medical journal study, Scand J Gastroenterol. 2002 Feb;37(2):192-9 called "Vitamin D status, parathyroid hormone and bone mineral density in patients with inflammatory bowel disease" by Jahnsen
found that hypovitaminosis D is common in Crohns Disease. Vitamin D has recently been shown to be important in disease fighting. Perhaps it's time for Crohns people to take this vitamin, upto 4000 IU/day has been reported safe to take. |
