Medication Working?

I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in May and have been taking Lialda (4 pills/day) since with a short two week span of prednisone. I am going back to my doctor soon and I am curious to know how I know if the Lialda is working? I am still having D at least 7-10 times a day with mucus and generally feeling run down and having pain in my stomach. Is the Lialda working because I no longer have blood in my stool? Should I be asking for a new medication? I am a teacher and hoping to control things before going back to school.

Re: Medication Working?

Hi Lauren...where exactly is your or throughout?

Are you taking the Lialda at one time or twice daily? and for how long?

I'd strongly suggest you ask your GI for rectal retention enemas. Mesalamine would be a good start, but your doc can have you do a steroid foam one during the day (which would be easier to hold) and the mesalamine to retain overnight.

It's all a matter of perspective!
