I posted a few days ago about my 11 month old son having problems with constipation and rectal prolapse. We visited the doctor yesterday who has ordered a sweat test. Aside from the prolapse, my son does not show any of the other typical symptoms. My husband wondered what I was doing when I actually licked the baby to see if he tasted salty. I was wondering if any of you have had a child diagnosed with CF when the only symptom (at the time) was rectal prolapse?
He didn't really seem salty. I even compared his hand and arm to mine. They were both pretty much the same. So, I take it when they say "salty" they really mean it.
Hi, I was wondering how the test turned out? I have had two children who have tested for CF this month. It is devastating. They do not have any GI symtoms though.
Thankfully, the test turned out negative. They tested both arms...one came back at 17 and the other 19. That's a big sigh of relief. We do still have repeat visits with a pediatric surgeon to make sure the prolapse doesn't need surgically corrected. We are also visiting a GI specialist and a nutritionist. So, we still have mysteries to uncover, but the CF test is one that had be very, very worried.
