Second Hand Smoke and CF

Most of my friends and relatives don't smoke, but lately we've gone to a couple social events and were shocked to see people just lighting up in front of us, especially when young children are around. What really annoys us is that most people know DS has cystic fibrosis and can't be around smoke, but they're too concerned about what other people think to ask that they not smoke. How do other people deal with second hand smoke?

If someone lights up in front of me, I try to get away from that area. That's all you really can do, some smokers will get very defensive if you ask them to smoke outside or something.

My friends that know I have Cf are very respectful to myself when they smoke. If I am at there place they will go outside to smoke...

Banning smoking in bars and restaurants in London Ontario has also been a great thing! No more worries about the second hand smoke there!

Gimme a break! Smokers do not have a right to blow smoke in a toddlers face! I recently read an article about a CF fundraiser and how the queen of swampfest had to be carted out in an ambulance 'cuz people kept smoking at the event even though they were asked not to. One person was asked to put out a cigarrete and a woman said this is a free country and blew SMOKE in a 7 year old cfers face.

That's despicable! I can't believe someone could be so evil.

Re: Second Hand Smoke and CF

Both my Grandparents who I lived with smoked 40+ a day and I was always around it, that was for about 10+ years, then they both died, one from bone and one from lung cancer

Then when I had friends who smoked around me, also going to pubs I was surrounded by smoke, and then again in clubs.. It's a horrible thing. I stay in Scotland and the sooner they bring the law for no smoking in pubs/clubs the better.

Fortunatly I now live with my mum and step-dad who do not smoke and neither does my father.
