Could it be cf?

Hello -
I am new here, just spend about the last 2 weeks reading all the information here on cystic fibrosis. I have a 2 1/2 year old daughter who has been sick it seems since she was born. At first it was frequent ear infections, at 10 months her ENT put tubes in her ears and we thought all right she will be healthier now. Well that was not the case from there she started getting sinus infections and bronchitis it seemed every 3 weeks, sometimes not even making it off antibiotics or albuterol or steroids. I brought her to her ENT for her 6 month checkup as usual for her tubes and I brought her medical records from her ped with me to ask about all the sinus infections. From May to December of 2011 she had 8 sinus infections and bronchitis 5 times. She was on Albuterol, Antibiotics and Steroids from Oct 28th to Dec. 16th. On Dec. 8th they removed her Adenoids and said that this should help her. They also mentioned that when she was under anesthesia that her lungs tightened and we should see a Specialist. On Dec 15th we did that. They said allergies and asthma, began Singulair and she made it about 2 weeks before getting sick. I brought her in and they said she had a virus that was exacerbating her asthma and put her on Pulmicort, Albuterol, Xopenex, Singulair and to go with that for 3 days. If no improvement, drop Pulmicort and begin Millipred for 5 days. Well no improvement called after 4 days and they began Omnicef. ok that puts us to today and we are currently doing Albuterol 3 times a day, Millipred 2 times a day, Singulair 1 time a day and Xopenex 1 time a day and then the Omnicef. She is still coughing and still having Sinus issues though no temp. The sinus drainage seems as though it may have slowed...She is 2 1/2, 36 1/4 inches and 32 lbs. She has gained 2 lbs in 1 year. OK that was all the info i can give, My question is do any of you think I should suspect that she may have cf since none of the allergy/asthma treatments are working for her and she has been sick so much?? I may be crazy but it was mentioned to me by a few people that maybe it was cf.

Sorry so long!!! Thanks!

Uhmmm ! I can say one thing about your concern's. If all has seemed to fail then it would be best to take the "sweat test" which measures the amount of salt in the sweat. You can also do what some have done before the sweat test and lick the childs forhead. I know that seems strange but before the sweat test that was a good guide for a parent to go further and see cf specialists. I'm not sure but it sounds like sympton's my son's have had at an early age such as your child in mention. By the way my two boy's 14 and 18 have Cf. I wish you all the best and remember one very important thing, the sooner cf can be detected the better the chances of a lasting and effective treatment. If I've helped I'm happy.

Re: Could it be cf?

Hello, not sure if you received any answers. Im in same boat. Daughter sick since 7 months old. Was born with jaundice, then colic, then allergys <doctor never did actually check to see if was upper resp infec> put on high strength zyrtec. Didnt help. SO went back to fulltime breastfeeding, seemed to help a bunch. Kept still once in awhile getting upper resp, ear infections, sinus infections, and upper resp infections about every 3 weeks. Tried every type of med you can imagine. Then one she was almost 6 after I had completely stopped breastfeeding she got far worse. Missed 30 plus days of her kindergarten year. Has now missed over 30 days again. They removed tonsils, adenoids, and shaved turbinates. Just put in tubes in her ears. Still having bad mucous/post nasal drip, sinus infections. Never clears up, constant low grade fever, with chronic cough. She is highly allergic to alternaria mold, and all other molds, and cats, but not much else. your not alone will pray for you. How is your little one doing now. SIncerely, gal
