Calling hours tonight for best friend's grandpa-have question - Death & Dying Message Board

My best friend's grandpa passed away from cancer this past weekend. She is getting married on Saturday March 5th and I'm the maid of honor in her wedding.

I really didn't know her grandpa, but I'm going to the calling hours tonight cause I want to be there for her and her sisters. I'm married and my husband also knows my best friend (obviously). He doesn't think it is his place to go with me tonight and I feel sort of slighted.

I don't want to go alone, never have liked going to stuff like this, but then again who does?

My view on it is that he should go in support of me and my best friend..he is my husband....but his view on it is that he doesn't know her grandpa, or her parents, he only knows her and her sisters. I know he'd feel uncomfortable. Am I wrong for wanting him to come along with me? Is it out of line?

I think it's imortant for him to go with you in support of you and your friend, regardless if he knew the man or not. Friends of mine who didn't know, or barely knew, my father came to his memorial service to support me and my family. Memorial services and the like are really for the people left behind, not so much the one who has left. It allows people to remember the deceased to others and celebrate his life. So I don't think it's out of line for you to request that your husband accompany you.
