| Energy at the end?
My mother has stage 4 colon cancer that has spread to all of her bones, liver, adrenal gland and abdomen. She is receiving radiation to the largest tumors in her spine to help with her pain - we know there won't be a cure. We have not been able to bring ourselves to ask how long.
She has had no appetite and was hospitalized for three days last week because of dehydration, weakness and confusion. In the past two days she is more alert and yesterday she said she was hungry and ate three meals. She actually got herself out of bed yesterday which she hasn't been able to do for weeks. She seemed liked my mom again yesterday. The days prior to yesterday, she slept most of the time and when she was awake, she wasn't really there. I've read that near the end, people can get a sudden burst of energy. I'm not sure if that's what we saw yesterday or if my some miracle she was actually feeling better. For those of you who have experienced this burst of energy with a loved one, what was it like and how long did it last? Was it really signaling the end or did they last quite a long while after the energy surge? I was thrilled to actually see my mom again yesterday, but I'm afraid to get too hopeful. I appreciate any help you can give as I have never been through this before.
Thank you!
Tina
