Carbon Dioxide and Unconscious

My mum passed away from End stage c.o.p.d rencently december 2009, The doctors told my brother the high levels of Carbon dioxide made her go to sleep and go Unconscious, but she could still here my brother and my self's voice but has no response . Is this true? Does Carbon Dioxide cause no pain effect and the Unconsciouspart of it ? while passing away after the docs turned the ventaltion lung machine off that forced oxygen into her lungs .

If any one knows of this or lossed a loved one this please reply

Re: Carbon Dioxide and Unconscious

Hearing is the last sense to leave our bodies. So yes, your mom could have heard your voice even though she was unconscious. I know because I sat with my own mom when she was dying and she responded to my voice before she passed.

The carbon dioxide buildup does cause unconsciousness. She did not suffer when they turned off the breathing machine. Know that she went peacefully.

My prayers are with you...
