Pain Control

I've always wondered about pain medication for persons approaching death. In England the latter stages a patient can receive a "Bromley (?) cocktail", which apparently deadens all pain because it has some heavy drugs in it. Is this available in the US? What are the usual pain meds given to advancing cancer patients, and the terminal in the US? Lastly, when under the effects of the standard pain meds, are patients still under varying levels of pain, or are the meds effective?

Re: Pain Control

The hospice that I work for, usually prescribes one, two or all three of these meds: Atavin; Mophine and Fentanyl depending on the patients "perceived" pain. Hospice is there to keep the patient pain free from the time the individual is diagnosed as terminal.
