Re: looking for help

My son is in a similar situation and it is a problem. What exercise CAN you do? He can walk in water along the rail, and swim a bit. He can do a bit of upper-body weights and some leg lifts. His condition has not affected his strength too much, so that helps. As to diet, he eats very little in the way of carbs, finding that he cannot use the calories. He eats a fairly high-protein diet, which sustains him and keeps him from nibbling too much (from boredom). Cheese, meat, eggs, and other stuff that is easy to cook. Mainly grills with salad or hot vegetables. Luckily he doesn't have a sweet tooth. He is just maintaining a reasonable weight. His main problem is the antidepressants he takes to help with his despair, they do tend to cause weight gain.

Re: looking for help

This is my problem also. I have Charcot Marie Tooth (CMT) A hereditary Peripheral Neuropothy. And am losing my ability more and more every day to walk. I have a walker which I use outside the house for safety because my balance is terrible. I am very sedentary and although I keep busy with crorcheting and scrapbooking I have to figure a way to get some weight off. There really is nothing out there that I have seen that addresses this situation. I am so glad that there is someone who can understand exactly where I am at. Getting in and out of a pool is not an option as the whole process is fatigue when you have muscular dystrophy

Smile Re: looking for help

Hi
I also have very limited mobililty and can't excercise in the normal way so I have found jst doing something that at least gets your heart pumping helps. I do all mine seated. I fill two small drinking water bottles and use them as dumbells for my arms. My Walking stick I use to do push ups like a weightliftifter would do. My legs I take it in turn to try and raise each one as far as I can. All very gentle stuff but it's something. Plus I love music and there's nothing to stop you from doing sit down dancing just because you can't stand up and do it move around in your chair it's fun.
