Question C1 C2 fusion & removal of rheumatoid tissue

Will be seeing the Neurosurgeon next week for removal of rheumatoid tissue at C1 C2 level in neck with a fusion. Neurosurgeon will do the surgery to remove the tissue at C1 C2 level through the mouth. This is scarey. It is called "transoral" aproach.

Is anyone out there familiar with this procedure and it being done through the mouth? Am really worried. Doctor says will need to use a feeding tube through the belly button because of the incision in the mouth.

Appreciate responses. Thanks.

I saw that no one has answered your post.... What became of your operation?
Did it help you out?

Yes, it helped. Was referred to a specialist who did the surgery through the back of the neck last June. (8 screws and 4 rods) Went for the follow up x-ray 3 months post op and it showed 2 fractured screws and 1 broken screw on one side). X-ray did show that the fusion was still okay and will know more with the next MRI.

Wow!
I hope you are doing good with the bad hardware.

What are the plans to fix the fractured screws & a lot more important of the broken screw? Are they just going to let it stay for now until is a needed operation in the future?

Did the Doctors give a time line for a follow up MRI?
I am asking these questions because I myself would be freaking out on this.

Also with the C1 & C2 being fused how is your "Range of Motion"(ROM)? I am sure that it is painful if you try to turn too quick or trying remember to turn the whole trunk.
