tooth pain?

I have had tooth pain in 2 of my upper teeth for years now. I said something to my old dentist and all he said was "no cavities thers nothing wrong with your teeth". Well what if there is infectioin or cracks in my teeth. I had X-rays done by another dentist but it was for wisdom teeth extraction so he wasnt looking for anything like that in other teeth. Should I request that I have a CT scan done of my teeth to look for any abnormalities in my teeth or with that type of test not show anything?

Re: tooth pain?

I, by no means, am a dentist, but if it really worries you, get a second opinion.

It could be that there is nothing wrong with your teeth and something else is causing the pain, like sinuses, or a nerve. My mom had a molar pulled years ago, and the top molar that is directly above it hurts her from time to time. The dentist says the tooth is fine.

It's my understanding that usually an infection shows up on the x-rays. But don't take my word for it. Like I said, if it really bothers you that the original dentist might have missed something, get a secong opinon.

Hope that helps somewhat

By all means get to a dentist and have those teeth x-rayed again. I had tooth pain in a left upper front tooth and after many years of pain and sensitivity to cold, my dentist found a crack in a back left upper molar, several teeth away from the sensitive "normal" tooth. This crack follows all the way down the center of the molar's root. The dentist had to remove an old filling to see the crack. He filled the molar with an epoxy compound, and my sensitive front tooth became pain free... My old dentist had said there was nothing wrong with my teeth for years too. The molar is still a little sensitive, but the other teeth are fine.
