Black patches on gums
Hi, a couple of weeks ago my husband noticed a black patch on his gum over one of his lateral incisors that has never had any work done on it. The adjacent front tooth was broken off 30+ years ago when he was a kid and a root canal was done. Apparently, there was some work done on the bone as well. He went to the dentist after noticing the black patch. The dentist said it is an amalgam tattoo or he had AIDS. AIDS did not seem to be at all possible so he felt relieved that it was just a tattoo. Now there is a black patch on the gum over the tooth that had the root canal. There is in addition a little pustule-looking thing hanging off the gum in the same area. There is no pain except if he pushes on the area. So, now he is getting concerned again and plans on visiting his primary provider for some kind of direction. Does anyone have any advice on what sort of professional can sort this all out?
