Gum Disease!

Over two months ago, I noticed that my gums were receding, badly. I went to the dentist, got some kind of special mouthwash, and for a couple weeks everything was great. But it came back, and I started using what was left of the mouthwash, and again, all was good. Now, again, as of just a few days ago, I have gotten it back on one tooth, and this is getting terrible -- it's really getting VERY close down to the root, though the tooth seems as stable as ever, it's getting very painful and very annoying. I shouldn't be getting this since I floss twice a day, brush atleast twice a day as well. My dentist also told me that it was because of how my teeth came in that it happens to me. Is there a certain extremety that you can let your gums go down and you won't be able to get skin grafts anymore? If the cause of the problem is where my teeth came in, does that mean I should get braces or something to avoid this? Please help...this is kind of an emergency.

Re: Gum Disease!

Adams - I suggest you see a periodontist. How old are you and do you brush your teeth hard? Be careful when brushing and make sure you're using a soft brush and do not hit your gum line.

I had my receeding gums grafted and going bk in two weeks to get them smoothed out because he didn't do the greatest of jobs but then again I was smoking back then and it stunted my healing process so I'm sure it was a little of both things. My gums are a little bulky now so he'll shave them down, etc...

Some people are just prone to certain things but brushing is one of the big things that can hurt you, also not flossing (can lead to gum disease), and overall genetics. Does it run in your family? Do you have crowns there or do you have all of your original teeth?
