I don't know what causes these, but last time I picked up some extra strength anbesol... I don't remember which variety it was, I think it might've been one of the cold sore ones... and put that on it. It numbed it immediately, but not annoying numbness that you can feel, I just didn't notice anymore pain for the rest of the day. The next day it hurt again but only a little bit, and I did it again... next day it was GONE. Usually these things stick around for a week or more for me and make me truly MISERABLE, so this was wonderful! I am sorry I don't remember which anbesol it was... it was one that was for mouth sores. Definitely worth going and finding it!!!
