hey guys,
just wondering if too much of a paste such as poligrip is used can it cause the denture to feel tighter in the gums ? on some days it feels like the denture is just seated so great and some days feels like its not lined up just right or something. hard to tell why this seems to be the case. any ideas or advice on positioning correctly when putting the dentures in ? its mainly the top plate i can tell a difference in. its not loose just feels oddly placed kinda =\ .

don't know if this is supposed to happen or not but I get the same reaction from my dentures. I started using the powder kind on top because of this problem and it seems to help. The powder doesn't last two minutes on the bottoms because of the looseness so I use the gel type on them. I feel out of line and my bottoms feel like they are too high up and on some days and some days I forget I am wearing dentures.

I definately think the adhesives can make your dentures fit differently - that is in fact the reason I started using the powder on my upper. The paste/gel made the denture feel 'off' - and the Seabond pads made the problem seem worse - I was amazed that a thin pad could make such a difference in the fit, but it did....the pads and the gel/paste seem to add enough 'bulk' to the denture that it made it feel like my bite was 'off.'
Have you tried the powder type yet??? That has made a big difference for me.

thanks Val, i will continue looking for the powder type, i have been to several different stores/pharmacies and all the seem to have is the paste and the pads =( , what you are describing sums up the way mine feel, also today i noticed alot of blood in my dentures when i removed them... possible bonechips could cause this ??

You might not be finding the powder because the box is VERY similiar to the Fixodent paste - look very closely at all the boxes and make sure it says 'adhesive powder' - while there's several types of paste (extra strength, mint, etc) - there's only one type of powder, and it should be near the paste.
I too, missed it for awhile - I bought mine at the local grocery store, but I'm pretty sure that Walgreen's has it too. When I found it, I bought 3 just for that reason!!!
I have had bit's of blood in my denture....I didn't attribute them to bone chips though because I didn't have any pain?!?!? I guess I thought it was part of the healing process.
Good luck and keep me posted if you find the powder - I'd be curious to know if you find it helps with the fit.
